My mother became ill in August 2008 with ovarian cancer. This is a story of the final months of an exceptional woman.

A Song for You

In the Olden Days, back when I would make up a mess o' chittlins and greens for the family, I would sing ditties to myself. This one was a favorite that, for some reason, has started sounding in my brainpan.

I now find myself singing it, full throated, on our verandah "Shangri-La" under a leaden sky looking out on a wonderland of ice and dirty melted snow thinking of you as you trot about this world in ways beyond me at present... .

Your Minstrel by the Lake,
Judy (via jeff)
PS: I quickly got my first "postcard". My stenographer, Jeff, took a picture from his home desk while he listened to me yap away on the phone providing the content for my blog entry. Here is his view. Enough to make me choke on sour grapes, I tell you!

Dear Judy,

Yes...Angelo is wonderful. Did you know that he and I met in Madrid many years ago when I was a young ingenue? We did the town red let me tell you!

I am so pleased you are doing well. When you have finished chemotherapy we will all have to have a reunion in Sienna then you and I can trek over to Pisa again and climb to the top of the Leaning Tower and holler and holler and holler in celebration! Won't that bring back some fond memories?

Did Jeff tell you that I have two little ones now. My boy is wonderful...still a tyke but a big spirit otherwise. My little girl is not much more than a babe in arms but either the budding next Margaret Thatcher or a Princess Queen.

Michael is doing well in his photography business and I started a marketing business with colleagues which is going well. We bought a new home. Still in Wimbledon outside London (you MUST come to visit with us soon) quite near where we were living before.

Life is good. Michael is able to stay home a bit and do quite a bit of the child care which he loves. I manage to hold down my end of matters without undue stress and bother.

Keep up the great work of healing. We are with you!

Lisa

PS We will give Angelo a contribution probably as soon as I post this.

About Me

My photo
Vacherie, Louisiana, United States
Born in rural Arkansas my tongue took up residence in my cheek shortly thereafter. I use it to speak "Genteel Southern Lady". Cussin' I only use when provoked by the Uppity. Paul, my husband, and I have lived in Cajun Country for many years raising cane, twins (a boy and a girl; now adults? definitely old) and other mischief. Alligators, water moccassins and bears have tussled with me as I protect our swampy coastal farmstead. We are stuck now on lovely Lake Hamilton near Hot Springs where we have our second home. We have been here waiting for Godot since my heart valves blew out Late November 2007 and now with cancer diagnosed August 2008. The Furies have me in their sights... I am writing this blog to let my Beloveds know how I am doing so they will not "get off" in imagined ways on my dire straits. The reality is bad enough without turning my story into a B-grade movie of the mind. I know all of you wish me the very best. And I miss you! never no mind your fevered imaginations. This is as close as I can get to a fond and loving chat with you right now... Sadly, Judy aka Mizflounce passed away peacefully early on Sunday morning May 30th 2009 age 78.
